San José, Calif. – Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) marked 20 consecutive months of passenger traffic growth in August 2014, with a 5.3 percent increase in travelers compared to the same month last year. SJC served 875,102 departing and arriving passengers in August, for an overall calendar-year-to-date increase of 6.8 percent.
Passenger growth during this peak summer travel month is attributed to airlines reporting strong passenger loads overall, and new or expanded nonstop service as follows:
- Alaska Airlines which inaugurated a daily flight to Salt Lake City in June;
- All Nippon Airways operated Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with larger seating capacity on
its Tokyo-Narita flight;
- American Airlines with a third daily nonstop flight to Chicago/O'Hare for the summer season;
- Delta Air Lines with expanded service to Los Angeles and recently added service to Seattle;
- Hawaiian Airlines operated daily wide-body service to both Honolulu and Maui;
- Southwest Airlines offered Boeing 737 aircraft with larger seating capacity on many routes;
and
- Volaris added an extra flight each week to its daily service to Guadalajara.
