Mineta San Jose International Airport Marks Twenty Consecutive Months of Passenger Traffic Growth in August

Sept. 25, 2014
Traffic increase of 5.3 Percent during Peak Summer Travel Month

San José, Calif.Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) marked 20 consecutive months of  passenger traffic growth in August 2014, with a 5.3 percent increase in travelers compared to the same month last year. SJC served 875,102 departing and arriving passengers in August, for an  overall calendar-year-to-date increase of 6.8 percent.

Passenger growth during this peak summer travel month is attributed to airlines reporting strong passenger loads overall, and new or expanded nonstop service as follows:

- Alaska Airlines which inaugurated a daily flight to Salt Lake City in June;

- All Nippon Airways operated Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft with larger seating capacity on

its Tokyo-Narita flight;

- American Airlines with a third daily nonstop flight to Chicago/O'Hare for the summer season;

- Delta Air Lines with expanded service to Los Angeles and recently added service to Seattle;

- Hawaiian Airlines operated daily wide-body service to both Honolulu and Maui;

- Southwest Airlines offered Boeing 737 aircraft with larger seating capacity on many routes;

and

- Volaris added an extra flight each week to its daily service to Guadalajara.
