Bombardier to Restructure Company, Create Four Main Segments

The segments: Bombardier Transportation, Bombardier Business Aircraft, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft, and a new one called Aerostructures and Engineering Services.

July 23--Bombardier, based in Montreal, announced a new organizational structure, which breaks the company into four main business segments, including a new segment called Aerostructures and Engineering Services.

That business segment will specialize in the design and development of complex advanced composite and metallic aerostructures in all classes of civil aircraft, Bombardier said. That includes fuselages, wings and engine nacelles.

A head of the segment will be appointed in the next few weeks, it said.

The three other segments include Bombardier Transportation, Bombardier Business Aircraft and Bombardier Commercial Aircraft.

Bombardier's aerospace group and customer service division functions will be absorbed into the aerospace business segments, which will reduce costs and overhead, Bombardier said.

Bombardier operates its Learjet business jet division in Wichita, and the division will operate under the Business Aircraft segment.

The segments will report directly to Bombardier president and CEO Pierre Beaudoin.

As a result of the restructuring, Bombardier aerospace president and chief operating officer, Guy Hachey, is retiring.

"This marks another step in Bombardier's evolution," Beaudoin said in a statement. "The new aerospace organizational structure will enable us to be more agile and flexible in addressing customer needs, while increasing our focus on growth areas."

Creation of an aerostructures and engineering services segment will help the company market its expertise in the field to the aerospace industry and generate new revenue, Beaudoin said.

The company recently reorganized its transportation division.

"We are setting the stage to take full advantage of our investments and the tremendous growth potential of our new products," he said.

A detailed plan to implement the changes will be developed over the next few months, Bombardier said. The new structure will be effective Jan. 1.
