June 26--MILTON -- Plans to expand one of two fixed-base operators at the Peter Prince Airport are moving forward.

Santa Rosa County Commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to direct county staff to begin negotiating with Peter Prince Aviation Center management on an expanded lease agreement.

"They have some pretty ambitious expansion plans in the next five years," said County Administrator Hunter Walker, who met with Peter Prince Aviation leadership on Wednesday.

Peter Prince Aviation Center, which opened in 2012, offers aircraft maintenance, flight instruction, aircraft rentals and aviation fuel at the county's Peter Prince Airport.

Peter Prince Aviation Center is asking for roughly six additional acres. Walker said that was not enough land for the county to lease to another company, but use of the land must meet with approval from the FAA.

The company needs additional space to build new classrooms for the flight school and office space.

A new lease agreement will come back to the commission for approval after the county and Peter Prince Aviation Center complete the negotiations, Walker said.
