Beltsville, MD, June 12, 2014 – Bill Tart, an internationally recognized leader and expert in unmanned aerial systems, joins ASRC Federal as director of the unmanned aerial systems strategic initiative. Tart’s addition will accelerate the organization’s entry into the unmanned aircraft and unmanned aerial systems markets.

“Bill’s extensive experience providing oversight to multiple UAS programs positions our organization to deliver a broad spectrum of unmanned systems service offerings to our civil and defense customers,” said Mark Gray, ASRC Federal president and CEO. “His experience as an MQ-1 Predator pilot and an operational commander, in addition to his thought leadership in this field, will be key differentiators for our team.”

With the Federal Aviation Administration recently announcing the selection of six UAS research and test site operators, including one in Fairbanks, Alaska, ASRC Federal companies are poised to provide UAS services as the integration of civil and defense UAS into the National Airspace System continues.

Tart has over 24 years’ experience supporting and leading various U.S. Air Force programs, initiatives and squadrons. Prior to joining ASRC Federal, Tart served as the Air Force director of remotely piloted aircraft division at the Pentagon, where he spearheaded UAS programs. For his service, Tart has been awarded the Bronze Star, Defense Superior Service, Legion of Merit, and Air Medals. Tart, a prolific speaker at think tanks and academic institutions, has been published three times and consistently named one of the Air Force's top airpower strategists and commanders at the group and squadron levels.
