May 22--Southwest Airlines will reduce the number of daily flights between Austin and Dallas Love Field later this year, the air carrier said this week.
The airline currently offers 12 flights a day, but will cut that number to 10 by November, spokeswoman Thais Conway told the American-Statesman.
The Austin-Dallas route is one of several nationwide that will see a reduction in frequency this year, Conway said, allowing Southwest to free up jets for several new routes it plans to add at Love Field.
"We're looking at the economy and at customer demand," Conway said.
The move comes as restrictions that had prevented Southwest from offering direct flights from Love Field to all but a handful of states are set to expire.
Southwest does have some good news for Central Texans, though. The airline plans to add nonstop service between Austin and Cancun starting Nov. 2, Conway said.
