Kazakhstan To Open 75 New International Flights By 2020

Eight new international flights will be opened in Kazakhstan in 2014

May 22--An additional 75 international flights will be opened in Kazakhstan by 2020, Kazakh Minister of Transport and Communications, Jenis Kasymbek said on May 22.

He made the remarks while speaking at the TransEurasia-2014 International Conference on Transport and Transit Potential in Astana.

The minister said that some eight new international flights will be opened in Kazakhstan in 2014, nine -- in 2015, seven -- in 2016 and six flights will be opened in 2017.

This will bring the number of international flights in Kazakhstan to 128, the minister stressed.

Kasymbek went on to add that it is planned to reconstruct all 18 airports of the country by 2020, whereby they will comply with the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The minister underscored that around 13 runways and nine terminals of Kazakhstan's airports have already been reconstructed.

Work has started to create modern hub airports in the area of international airports of Astana and Almaty, Kazakhstan's transport and communications minister said.
