May 08--Dallas/Fort Worth Airport opened ten new gates in Terminal B on Thursday as part of its terminal redevelopment project.
The airport said the new gates, B30 through B39, will be used by American Eagle regional jets. The $40 million concourse extension includes 20,000 square feet of gate space and replaces one gate at Terminal B, for a net gain of nine gates at the terminal.
"These new gates give DFW Airport additional capacity for hosting flights in Terminal B, and a beautiful new space for customers to enjoy as they await their flights," said DFW chief executive Sean Donohue in a statement.
The airport included a comfort zone seating area and charging stations at the new gates.
With the expansion, DFW now has 164 gates in five terminals. It is continuing to renovate its older terminals A, B, C and E as part of the seven-year $2.3 billion redevelopment project.
In addition to its terminal renovations, DFW is building a new jet bridge at Terminal D that will be able to accommodate the world's largest commercial jet, the Airbus A380. Emirates Airline and Qantas Airways will both begin flying the A380 on their routes to DFW starting this fall.
