Angel MedFlight Transports Neonates with High Tech Care Anywhere In the World

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sometimes even the tiniest patients need specialized care and transport to distant locations. These are the neonatal patients; babies born prematurely or with complications after birth.

According to an international report published by the March of Dimes Foundation, 15 million babies worldwide are born preterm each year.

When one of these fragile newborns needs urgent air medical transport, the services of a well-trained neonatal medical crew are critical to the infant's care.

Our fleet of jets are medically-configured with state-of-the-art neonatal technology, such as the Baby Pod II™ and the Isolette® incubator. With this neonatal equipment, Angel MedFlight Worldwide Air Ambulance has the ability to transport neonates in a safe and protected environment built specially to meet their needs for security, comfort and easy access.  The sophisticated Isolette® incubator uses modern technology that incorporates a built-in ventilator and baby warmer. It can stabilize both the core and peripheral body temperature of the baby.

The Angel MedFlight Neonatal team consists of experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, RN Certified (Clinical) Specialists and NREMT paramedics, who specialize in the care of neonates born with a variety of issues associated with low birth weight and prematurity.

Infants, especially neonates, handle altitude changes differently than adults. The medical team constantly watches for any effects of high altitude on the infant with the help of specialized equipment that includes constant monitoring devices. This equipment is continuously checking vital signs, temperature, heart rate, blood pressure and respiratory rate.

"Our dedicated neonatal medical crew is key in transporting critically ill or 'preemie' patients," explains Matt Greenwell, Education Director at Angel MedFlight. "Some of these babies need intravenous fluids or respiratory support. If they need just a little bit of oxygen or a ventilator, we have all of those capabilities ready and the experienced professionals to administer them."

Using Learjets enables Angel MedFlight to transport these tiny passengers faster and safer, including international destinations, with the ability to climb above weather disturbances for a smooth transport. Angel MedFlight has a perfect safety record and was awarded an AR/GUS Platinum Safety Rating and a Level-one IS/BAO Certification.
