Galaxy FBO Opens Its New Facility at the Lone Star Executive Airport (KCXO) in North Houston - Conroe, Texas

Jan. 24, 2014

January 14, 2014 – Conroe, Texas – Galaxy FBO today announced the opening of its new state-of-the-art Fixed Based Operation (FBO) corporate and general aviation facility at the Lone Star Executive Airport (KCXO) in Conroe, Texas.

The new facility occupies 15 acres at the south corner of the Lone Star Executive Airport, just at the end of Runway 14-32. Located at 2971 Hawthorne Drive, it utilizes the new South Entrance of the airport on Route 336 Loop.

The massive construction broke ground in October 2012. More than 13,000 truckloads of fill were imported to raise the ground elevation, 45,000 yards excavated for onsite drainage and detention, 21,000 tons of cement-stabilized, crushed concrete was used for the base for the apron/ramp.

“The new facility will provide visitors with an impressive gateway to Montgomery County - Conroe, The Woodlands and surrounding North Houston destinations – as well as a great experience for the flight crew,” said Jeremy Gee, Vice President of Galaxy FBO. “Award-winning Galaxy FBO has been conducting business at the Lone Star Executive Airport since 2006, and the new facility will allow us to efficiently grow our business as we improve service levels to exceed customer expectations."

Features of the new Galaxy FBO facility:

  • Three-story 45,000 sq.ft. building
  • Two 50,000 square-foot hangars
  • Arrival/departure canopy of 168’ wide x 101’ long
  • 45,000 square yards of apron/ramp space with 24 three-point concrete imbedded tie-downs
  • Phillips 66 fuel service

Galaxy FBO facility occupies 17,000 sq.ft. space – the entire first floor of the three-story office building, which houses Pilot and VIP lounges, conference rooms and offices. Approximately 5,000 sq.ft. of the second floor is leased to Wing Aviation, a regional Private Aircraft Management and Part 135 Charter services company, for its North Houston operations.

Two identical hangars provide adequate space for approximately 38,000 square feet

of aircraft storage, with 28’ of door clearance height (42’-6” eave height). Each hangar has more than 12,000 square feet of additional space for parking, tug storage and other aircraft related equipment. The hangars’ 296-foot width accommodates any private aircraft on the market today. One of the hangars will be utilized as a ‘community’ hangar, for Galaxy FBO transit and base customers and the second hangar is available for lease to a flight department.

The third floor of the building will feature the well-known Black Walnut Café restaurant. The fast-casual counter-service concept has seating for 120 inside and also features a unique 36 seat, 1,500 sq.ft. patio, that overlooks the apron and the Runway 14-32. The Black Walnut Café will be open daily from 7am to 3pm starting January 22, 2014. Its extensive menu separates the fast casual concept from any other airport diner in the region, featuring fresh, cooked to order breakfast and lunch entrées such as Sirloin Steak Benedict, Blackened Mahi Mahi Caesar Salad, Turkey Burger, Fiesta Jalapeño Chicken Pasta and Lobster Tacos.

“The Galaxy FBO development ushers in a new chapter in continuing improvements at the airport.  As the first major development on the Southeast side of the airport, it also opens the door for future expansion,” said Scott Smith, Lone Star Executive Airport Manager. “With the extension of the primary runway to 7,500 feet; the construction of a U.S. Customs facility; and the addition to our FBO family of the new Galaxy FBO with Black Walnut Café, the airport is better positioned to meet the rising needs of general aviation in the North Houston, The Woodlands and Conroe areas.”

After a soft opening in mid-September, the facility is now in full operation
