Nov. 02--STILLWATER, Okla. -- The Stillwater Regional Airport learned it would receive a $447,000 federal grant to help land community airline service in October.
City councilors will vote on accepting the grant at a 5:30 p.m. Monday meeting at the Stillwater Municipal Building, 723 S. Lewis.
Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Oklahoma, helped secure the Small Community Air Service Grant from the United States Department of Transportation for Stillwater.
City councilors will consider a resolution Monday. The resolution accepts the grant and designates Mayor John Bartley or Vice Mayor Chuck Hopkins as document signers.
Stillwater has been pursuing commercial air service between Stillwater Regional Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International for several years. The chamber conducted a 2012 business travel survey showed positive results, Stillwater Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Lisa Navrkal said in October.
Stillwater Airport Director Gary Johnson said the partnership among Oklahoma State University, the city, Chamber of Commerce and Stillwater Regional Airport Authority was critical in landing the grant.
The next step, Johnson said, is securing a contract with a commercial airline provider.
The City Council also will fix an error in the resolution calling for the Nov. 12 special election for three capital improvement projects.
The error was contained in section 2 of Proposition 1, concerning the location of the proposed amphitheater.
The project description placed the amphitheater in the southeast corner of Boomer Lake Park.
The corrected project description places the amphitheater in its correct location -- the southwest corner of Boomer Lake Park, near the corner of Lakeview and Washington.
