Oct. 31--United Airlines' scheduled move from Terminal A at Kansas City International Airport to Terminal C was postponed at the last minute Wednesday because of a problem with the airline's communication equipment.

The airline's first arrival in its new home Wednesday night was to be United Flight 4163 from Houston. It arrived at 7:49 p.m. at Terminal A instead.

Thursday was to be the first day that all United/Air Canada flights into and out of Kansas City were to operate out of Terminal C. But the airport's flight information site said all United operations Thursday will remain out of Terminal A.

The postponement is indefinite and may extend into next week, said Joe McBride, a spokesman for the city aviation department.

The issue involved United's gate computers and kiosks in Terminal C, preventing the airline from checking in people and baggage there.

McBride said the airline is still able to function out of Terminal A.

But the airport had changed signage and made other efforts to alert travelers and people picking up passengers of the switch to Terminal C. Officials scrambled Wednesday night to put out new information.

"We apologize for any inconvenience that people may have had," McBride said.

The airport plans to close Terminal A once United moves out and US Airways makes the switch to Terminal C early next year.
