Investigators seek clues about a MAC 11 subcompact machine pistol found stashed inside a closet at John F. Kennedy International Airport .
The Associated Press reports that a contractor saw the weapon, capable of discharging 32 rounds in less than two seconds, as he ran cable through the ceiling. The pistol was hidden in a storage closet behind a locked manager’s office door, in Terminal 1, just outside the secure area, AP reports state.
According to reports, the MAC 11, stored in its original carrying case, wasn’t loaded and investigators didn’t find any ammunition.
Authorities are questioning JFK employees, but according to news accounts, it is believed the gun could have been there for years.
