Willow Run Airport to Get $12 Million in Federal Funding

Sept. 19--WASHINGTON -- The Wayne County Airport Authority will receive an additional $12 million from the federal government for renovating a runway at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti.

U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, both D-Mich., and U.S. Reps. John Dingell, D-Dearborn, and John Conyers, D-Detroit, announced the grant from the federal Department of Transportation today. It comes on top of $9 million in initial funding awarded in July.

Willow Run Airport is a leading air cargo and general aviation facility that handles 200 million pounds of cargo each year, leading to the contribution of $85 million to the regional economy and supporting 1,500 jobs across Michigan, the members of Congress said in a news release.
