Sept. 03--Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport leapfrogged ahead of Washington Dulles International Airport in terms of passenger counts in 2012, according to Airports Council International.
BWI was the nation's 22nd busiest airport in 2012, bumping Dulles down a place, according the council, which released passenger data for North American airports on Tuesday.
Passenger volume at BWI rose 1.25 percent to nearly 22.7 million last year, while Dulles slipped 2.89 percent to 22.4 million.
Globally, BWI ranked 65th, while Dulles ranked 67th.
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport ranked 25th nationally, moving 19.6 million people in 2012, an increase of 4.22 percent.
The nation's busiest airports were Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with 95.5 million passengers, O'Hare International Airport in Chicago with 66.6 million passengers and Los Angeles International Airport with 63.7 million passengers.
