Aviation Firms to Hold Rally to Tout General Aviation's Contributions

Albuquerque-area manufacturers Aspen Avionics, Bendix/King by Honeywell and Eclipse Aerospace plan to stage a 12:30 p.m. rally touting their industry's contributions to the economy today at Cutter Aviation at the Sunport.

Aug. 12--Albuquerque-area manufacturers Aspen Avionics, Bendix/King by Honeywell and Eclipse Aerospace plan to stage a 12:30 p.m. rally touting their industry's contributions to the economy today at Cutter Aviation at the Sunport.

Gov. Susana Martinez and U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., are scheduled to speak as well as company representatives.

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association has helped organize the rally in partnership with the local companies.

Organizers said they expect hundreds of aviation enthusiasts to attend, including representatives from local aviation manufacturing companies, businesses that use general aviation to ensure their commercial success and members of the military.

The general aviation industry contributes more than $150 billion to the U.S. economy annually and supports 1.2 million jobs nationwide, they said in a news release.

New Mexico is home to more than 4,500 FAACertificated Pilots and 174 civil and joint use airports and heliports.

The industry has a continuing role in aiding thousands of businesses of all sizes become more productive and efficient, and it provides local communities with much-needed tax revenue and jobs.
