July 27--CULLMAN -- The final pieces of a year long project at Cullman Regional Airport will be put into place next week when an on-site concrete apron will receive yellow striping.

The Airport Board plans to have a ribbon cutting ceremony in the upcoming weeks introducing the new projects that were accomplished through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant centered around apron rehabilitation. Consultant/Engineer Ryan Pearce said they will begin working on the apron striping next week, which will finalize the project.

"Instead of having a ribbon cutting at the completion of each project, we waited until it was all done to show what has been accomplished this year," Pearce said. "The hangars are finished and once the work is completed on the apron, we will have the projects done."

The FAA grant for apron rehabilitation enabled the airport to build around a 12,000-square-yard concrete apron costing approximately $1 million. The board applied with the pre-application in November of 2011, and they received approval on the grant in July of 2012.

"We started construction in early fall of 2012 and now we are wrapping up the final phase," Pearce said.

The board is comprised of five officials: Cullman Mayor Max Townson, County Commission Chairman Kenneth Walker, Dr. Vince Karolewics, Rex Smith, and John Cabri.
