Edelweiss Air will add a second weekly flight between Tampa International Airport and Zurich, Switzerland, beginning March 4, 2014, and continuing at least through April 29, 2015

July 19--TAMPA -- Edelweiss Air will add a second weekly flight between Tampa International Airport and Zurich, Switzerland, beginning March 4, 2014, and continuing at least through April 29, 2015, new schedules on the Edelweiss website indicate.

The flights will be in addition to current Friday flights between Tampa and the European hub city.

Edelweiss inaugurated its Tampa-Zurich route in May 2012 with a single weekly flight and expanded that to two flights a week last summer during the peak travel season.

This summer, though, the carrier has flown round-trips between the two destinations only on Fridays.

But those flights have been popular enough to fill 98 percent of the seats, Tampa International officials have said. The Airbus A330 aircraft seat 342 passengers.

The new Edelweiss flight will be the second increase in international flights announced this week at Tampa International.

On Wednesday, Copa Airlines said it will begin flights four days a week between Tampa and Panama City, Panama, starting Dec. 17.

Tampa airport officials said Wednesday they are continuing to pursue additional international fights between Tampa and Germany, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.

The airport has scheduled an 11 a.m. news conference today to provide details of Edelweiss service.
