June 20--Charleston County Aviation Authority will meet today to hear an update on the final price for the massive makeover of the 28-year-old terminal at Charleston International Airport.

The construction cost in early June was down to $159 million, but board chairman Andy Savage asks for further cuts to bring the price down to $153 million.

Earlier this month he lashed out at program manager Michael Baker Corp. for not doing enough to lower construction costs on the terminal overhaul.

The revamped terminal will be expanded to include six new gates, a third baggage carousel, new rental car pavilion, consolidated security checkpoint and numerous other changes. The work is set to be completed in late 2015.

The project will actually cost $189.3 million because it includes $30.3 million in professional services such as engineering and management.

The board will also hear separate presentations from Charleston County staff members and consultants, and Mount Pleasant Town Councilman Chris O'Neal and real estate agent Michael White, about economic development.

The board meets at 2 p.m. at the airport.
