June 20--ROLLS-Royce celebrated the aviation industry's Paris Air Show by announcing orders worth pounds sterling 1.5bn in the space of a single day.

First Rolls unveiled a memorandum of understanding with Air France-KLM to provide the Franco-Dutch carrier with engines to power up to 50 Airbus 350s.

Air France-KLM will use the British firm's Trent XWB engines on 25 of the aircraft initially, but has options over a further 25 aircraft.

The engine is specifically designed for the Airbus 350 and has proved the fastest selling in the Trent series, with 1,500 already purchased.

The deal is worth pounds sterling 700m at list prices, although the airline is likely to have received a substantial discount.

Rolls (up 4p to 1192p) also won a pounds sterling 511m order from SriLankan Airlines, which is also buying Trent XWB engines to power four A350s as well as Trent 700s to power six A330s.

A third deal will see Oman Air pay pounds sterling 128m for Trent 700s to power three A330s, with a maintenance contract thrown in. Finally, Russia's Transaero selected Rolls to power four 787 Dreamliners, opting for the Trent 1000.

The price was not disclosed, but the engineering firm also won a pounds sterling 128m contract to service Transaero's Trent 800 engines.
