Akron-Canton Airport Wins Social Media Award; Places 1st in Social Media Campaign

GREEN, Ohio, June 14, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Social media has revolutionized the way Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) interacts with its Customers. For its leadership in the innovative use of Facebook, Twitter and other social media tools to welcome Southwest Airlines, CAK was nationally recognized by the Airports Council International - North America's 2013 Excellence in Airport Marketing and Communications Awards. CAK garnered first place in the Social Media Campaign category. The judges were most impressed with the airport's involvement of thousands of CAK Customers to build excitement through multiple social media platforms.

Since then, CAK has continued to engage their Customers on Facebook gaining 57,600 likes and is the 3rd biggest airport Facebook page in the U.S. The airport has continued to use social media and has active accounts on Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest and Vine.

Winners were recently recognized at the 2013 Marketing and Communications Conference in Atlanta presented by Airports Council International-North America. This year, 53 airports in the U.S. and Canada entered the contest and received first, second and third place awards in 20 categories. In the social media campaign category, Tucson International Airport won second while Edmonton International Airport in Canada placed third.
