June 16--WATERLOO, Iowa -- A nearly $600,000 airport taxiway project is up for approval this week.

City Council members are scheduled Monday to consider a contract with Cedar Valley Corp., of Waterloo, to rehabilitate taxiway "B" at the Waterloo Regional Airport. The company's $592,527 bid was the lowest of three received on the project, and the firm met the participation goal for women and minority-owned businesses.

The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to provide 90 percent of the project funding. The balance would come from passenger facility charges paid by airport users.

Other scheduled council business includes:

A $39,495 purchase of an indoor golf simulator from Trackman Inc., of Stamford, Conn., for the Cedar Valley SportsPlex. It was the lower of two proposals for the equipment.

Funding for the simulator comes from the estate of Carlton and Thelma Winter, who operated Waterloo Ben Franklin stores and left money for the city to build a community recreation center.

An agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation for traffic safety improvements at the intersection of U.S. Highway 218 and Shaulis Road. The DOT will pick up 55 percent of the estimated $25,000 cost to install an advance warning system at the interchange with the city picking up the balance.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday in the council chambers on the second floor of City Hall.
