The Directorate General of Civil Aviation Authority (DGCA) and the Lebanese flag carrier Middle East Airlines-Air Liban (MEA) have awarded a contract to SITA to offer common-use terminal equipment (CUTE) services at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport for the next five years.
SITA will provide passenger processing with its AirportConnect Open platform and PassengerBagDrop to enable passengers who have checked in online to drop their baggage on arrival at the airport.
The contract also involves the deployment of SITA's WorldTracer kiosks, which will allow passengers to register if their baggage has been delayed without standing in line to speak with an airline representative.
The company has provided CUTE services at the airport since 1998.
Middle East Airlines-Air Liban IT head Adib Charif said that SITA's solution would help increase throughput per check-in station with less complexity and increased productivity overall at the airport.
"This will help us cater for growth in the years ahead," Charif said.
The new system, which complies with the industry's latest common use passenger processing systems (CUPPS) standards, will be deployed at the airport's 168 workstations at the check-in areas, boarding gates, baggage hall, transit desk, VIP lounge and lost and found area.
WorldTracer kiosks will be deployed near the lost and found office. The deal will allow MEA, and the airlines it handles, to access their individual IT applications, including common-use and proprietary, in real time on the latest equipment, while also enabling sharing workstation positions.
AirportConnect Open is certified and meets all requirements of International Air Transport Association (IATA) recommendations and is currently being used by more than 300 airlines for passenger processing in about 400 airports.
