American Offers Self-Tagging Bag System At MIA

May 24, 2013

May 24--Passengers of American Airlines departing Miami International Airport now have the option to self-tag their checked bags to help speed the check-in process, the airline announced Thursday.

American said its new self-tag system works in three simple steps: First, customers check in at a self-service kiosk and print out bag tags; then they attach the tags to each checked bag, and lastly take the bag or bags to a designated drop-off location.

Customer service agents will be stationed near the kiosks to lend assistance and verify identification where needed, American said.

"We are very glad to launch the self-bag tag option in Miami," said Marilyn DeVoe, American's Vice President- Miami, in a statement. "Self-tagging brings us one step closer to a modernized, efficient new American by offering our customers more choices along their journey and more ways to customize their travel experience."

There's no date yet for a roll-out of the self-tagging system at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, an American spokeswoman said Thursday.
