The US Coast Guard (USCG) has awarded a follow-on contract to DRS Technologies to provide services related to maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of its C-130 aircraft fleet.

The US Coast Guard (USCG) has awarded a follow-on contract to DRS Technologies to provide services related to maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of its C-130 aircraft fleet.

Under the contract, DRS's Technical Services group will continue to deliver MRO services for the aircraft at the US Coast Guard Aviation Logistics Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, US.

The one-year contract includes one-year options to extend up to an additional four years and would value up to $200m, if all of the options are exercised.

DRS's Technical Services group operations vice president Don Davis said, "We look forward to renewing our commitment to provide safe, on schedule, mission-ready aircraft for our valued Coast Guard customers with the highest quality workmanship to meet all mission requirements."

For more than three years, DRS's MRO facility in Elizabeth City has been servicing the Coast Guard's C-130 fleet and ensuring the aircraft are kept mission-ready.

The facility includes two modern aircraft modification, repair and overhaul facilities, each over 100,000ft2.

The USCG currently operates Lockheed Martin-built HC-130H Hercules and HC-130J Super Hercules Long Range Surveillance (LRS) aircraft to conduct heavy air transport while meeting long-range maritime patrol requirements in vast areas of responsibility.

The HC-130J aircraft provides long-range maritime patrol capability unlike a medium range surveillance aircraft or cutters that cannot be patrolled efficiently in some areas.
