Today, ACI-NA President Greg Principato issued the following statement in support of the Dependable Air Service Act, a bill to allow the transfer of funds between Department of Transportation accounts to end controller furloughs at FAA.

"Airports Council International - North America (ACI-NA) fully supports bipartisan legislation introduced today by Senators John Hoeven and Amy Klobuchar that would end air traffic controller furloughs. During this time of sequestration, we applaud Senators Hoeven and Klobuchar for finding a bipartisan and commonsense solution to FAA's funding problems for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2013.

"Over the past few days we have seen flight delays that have created significant gridlock within our aviation system. As our communities' front door to aviation, U.S. airports cannot stand idle and let the brunt of sequestration-related budget cuts continue to impact passengers in communities both large and small.

"We continue to be extremely concerned that the aviation industry has only seen the beginning of the delays. As we move into peak summer travel season, we expect the delays to get worse, which is why Congress must pass the Dependable Air Service Act immediately to end the furloughs and restore our air traffic control capacity to its pre-furlough level."
