Ground handler says acquisition will strengthen its growth in Australian market.

Dnata, the Dubai-based air services provider, has announced the acquisition of Australia-based Broadlex Air Services.

Established in 2006 and employing 450 staff, Broadlex Air Services (BAS) provides aircraft cleaning services including cabin cleaning, laundry services and passenger support services at Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane airports.

The deal will see dnata acquire 100 percent of the cleaning provider's business.

"BAS will continue to operate as a separate business, serving a broad range of airline customers under its existing management team" said Stewart Angus, dnata's divisional senior vice president of Associated Companies. "This important investment demonstrates our continued commitment to grow the Australian aviation market," he added.

Current customers of BAS include Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Malaysian Airlines and Thai International. The acquisition of BAS grows dnata's Australian team to over 3,700 people nationally and complements its existing investments in inflight caterer Alpha, airport services joint venture Toll dnata and contact centre provider Mindpearl.

Dnata is one of the world's largest air services providers, offering ground and cargo handling, travel, technology solutions and in- flight catering services. Established in Dubai in 1959, dnata now has a global footprint in 38 countries across five continents. dnata has ground handling businesses in countries which include the UAE, Pakistan, Singapore, Australia, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Iraq.
