Erie Regional Airport Seeks New Bids for Runway Finishing Work

April 08--The Erie Regional Airport Authority is seeking new bids for final-phase construction of the $83 million runway extension.

The rebid is necessary because of a change in wording in the project labor agreement required by the Federal Aviation Administration, airport Executive Director Chris Rodgers said.

The language change does not change the scope of construction and should not affect bid prices, Rodgers said. "We're expecting the new bids to be a revisit of what we already got," he said.

The authority had opened five bids for the project, which includes resurfacing the old portion of the runway, on March 1. Apparent low bid was $8.9 million, or about $700,000 below the construction estimate.

The authority will seek new bids until April 23.

Final-phase construction will also include grading and drainage improvements. Construction is expected to be completed this summer.
