The Guilford County Board of Commissioners approved a $400,000 incentive package Thursday for the airport authority to build two new hangars that would be leased to TIMCO Aviation Services.

April 05--GREENSBORO -- Piedmont Triad International Airport may be one step closer to an expansion.

The Guilford County Board of Commissioners approved a $400,000 incentive package Thursday for the airport authority to build two new hangars that would be leased to TIMCO Aviation Services.

The board voted 5-4 in a near party-line vote.

Commissioners Chairwoman Linda Shaw was the only Republican who joined Democratic Commissioners Bruce Davis, Carolyn Coleman, Kay Cashion and Ray Trapp to vote in favor.

Republican Commissioners Jeff Phillips, Bill Bencini, Hank Henning and Alan Branson voted against the package.

TIMCO, an aircraft maintenance and repair company, says the expansion would add up to 400 new jobs that will pay an average of $41,800 per year plus benefits.

TIMCO will invest $32 million in the project.

The Greensboro City Council unanimously approved a $400,000 incentive for the project Tuesday.

The authority also received a $1 million grant for the expansion from the Golden Leaf Foundation this week, airport authority executives said Thursday night.

It is seeking $4 million from the state of North Carolina.
