Global engineering group Cavotec has secured a contract to supply advanced ground support equipment for the new Emirates Engineering Center A380 Line Maintenance Hangars at the Dubai International Airport.

Under the terms of the contract with leading construction contractor, A + P (Cyprus), Cavotec will supply, install and commission in-ground pop-up utility pits and pre-conditioned air (PCA) units for four new A380 line maintenance hangars at Emirates Engineering Center. Delivery is due to start in the second quarter this year, with commissioning slated in the end of 2013, a company statement said. Cavotec’s equipment is designed for the generation and supply of pre-conditioned air to Emirates Airbus A380 Aircraft during line maintenance servicing.

As of today, Cavotec possesses the exclusive technology for pre-conditioned air delivery systems, capable of cooling all types of aircraft, including Code-F A380 Super Jumbos, the statement said. The proposition of this distinctive solution is based on energy efficiency and ecological sustainability, as it minimises energy consumption and operational costs while dramatically cutting down carbon emissions by up to 66 per cent. Cavotec’s equipment has previously been selected by Emirates Engineering Center to provide utility services to the Emirates fleet.

Juergen Strommer, managing director at Cavotec Middle East, said: “Cavotec and Dubai International Airport have a longstanding relationship that has translated to continued mutual success over the past 17 years.” “We are delighted to be part of this new milestone project for Emirates Engineering Center at the Dubai International Airport, as this demonstrates the unmatched benefits that the sophistication, reliability and cost-effectiveness of Cavotec’s innovative ground support solutions provide.”

Emirates Engineering Center is one of the largest and most advanced aviation maintenance centres in the world having the largest single free-spanning roof structure in the Middle East. With the new addition of four line maintenance hangars, Emirates Engineering Center will boast of 12 hangars, spanning an area of 55 hectares on the north side of Dubai International Airport. “This project reaffirms Cavotec’s continued role as a trusted partner of Emirates by providing state-of-the-art solutions for its MRO facilities,” said Edward Christie, Aviation divisional manager for Middle East at Cavotec.

Cavotec’s state of the art in-ground pop-up systems serve the Dubai International Airport’s equipment Concourse C, Concourse B, and the newly opened Concourse A which is dedicated for Emirates’ growing fleet of Airbus A380’s. These pop-up systems supply parked aircraft with water, fuel, power and pre-conditioned air. Cavotec pop-up systems enable airports to reduce their use of mobile diesel-driven equipment, increasing operational efficiency, resulting in cleaner air and a clearer tarmac apron, the statement said. – TradeArabia News Service ?© Copyright 2012 www.tradearabia.com
