Loader caught taking money at city airport
A loader at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the city was caught allegedly taking money from a Dubai-bound passenger Tuesday night for illegally adjusting extra weight of his luggage.
A loader at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the city was caught allegedly taking money from a Dubai-bound passenger Tuesday night for illegally adjusting extra weight of his luggage. He was caught by a surveillance team of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at around 1 am. He allegedly took Rs 3,000 from one Hiren V Vyas. "Vyas was carrying nine kg extra weight for which he was supposed to pay around Rs 16,000. However, the loader settled the deal with Rs 3,000. It was not only a loss to Emirates airline but also an illegal activity at the airport," said an airport official. During preliminary investigations, the loader also revealed the name of another loader who had also taken money from a passenger in a similar manner, a top CISF official said. Both were handed over to police. Later, the were released as there was no formal complaint or FIR lodged against them, police said. However, the airline official released a statement saying, "Emirates confirms that an incident involving two ground handlers who are not employed with the airline were detained by local authorities. The matter is under further investigation."
