U.S. Embassy Provides Antiterrorism Assistance Training on Airport Security Management

The U.S. Embassy issued the following news release: The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Department of State's Antiterrorism Assistance (ATA) Program and the U.S. Embassy's Regional Security Office, concluded a seven-day training program focusing on Airport Security Management training course on Thursday, January 31, 2013.

The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Department of State's Antiterrorism Assistance (ATA) Program and the U.S. Embassy's Regional Security Office, concluded a seven-day training program focusing on Airport Security Management training course on Thursday, January 31, 2013.

The training, offered by the Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Security and taught by U.S. instructors, took place at the Civil Aviation Training Center in Dhaka. Officers from Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Dhaka Custom House, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, Armed Police Battalion, Special Branch (Immigration), and Dhaka Metropolitan Police of Bangladesh Police, and Biman Bangladesh Airlines participated in the training.

Deputy Chief of Mission Jon Danilowicz, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Air Vice Marshal Mahmud Hussain, ndc, psc, and the Regional Security Officer U.S. Embassy Dhaka Bernard Nixon were also present at the graduation ceremony.

When asked about the benefits and purpose of the training, U.S. Embassy Dhaka Regional Security Officer Bernard Nixon said, "The Antiterrorism Assistance Program courses are just one of many avenues we can use to fight terrorism together and protect the interests of Bangladesh, the United States and the entire region. Through this Airport Security Management Training class the participants will have knowledge of International Civil Aviation Organization standards and recommended best practices, and understand how to apply these standards and best practices to aviation security measures in effect in the partner nation's domestic and international airports."

The U.S. Embassy, in partnership with the Government of Bangladesh, plans to offer the training program several more times throughout the year.
