American Airlines' on-time rate is industry's worst in October

Dec. 13-- American Airlines' on-time arrival rate was dead last among the nation's 15 largest airlines in October, federal officials said.

Bankrupt American, which operates 16 flights a day and employs 7,000 people at Tulsa International Airport, reported an on-time rate of 67.65 percent, the Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics said.

The top three carrier for on-time arrivals in October were Hawaiian Airlines, 94.8 percent; Alaska Airlines, 86.8 percent; and AirTran Airways, 85.9 percent.

American Eagle, American's regional airline affiliate, posted an on-time arrival rate of 81.24 percent in October, which placed it ninth among 15 carriers.

The industry average on-time arrival rate in October was 80.2 percent, the BTS said.

For the first 10 months of this year, Hawaiian placed first with an on-time arrival rate of 93.3 percent; Alaska was second with 87.9 percent; and AirTran was third with 87.2 percent.

American Eagle ranked 10th in the 10-month period with an on-time arrival rate of 81.8 percent, while American finished 13th with an on-time arrival rate of 76.8 percent.

The industry average on-time arrival rate in the first 10 months was 81.99 percent, the agency said.
