TRB Webinar: Airport Governance and Ownership

The National Academies' Transportation Research Board issued the following news:

TRB will conduct a webinar on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, from 12:00 PM ET to 1:30 PM ET that will feature research conducted by TRB's Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) on approaches to airport privatization, airport ownership and governance, and state-specific airport legislation to help airports operate in an efficient, competitive, and financially viable way. There is no fee to register for this webinar, participants must register in advance, and 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for Accredited Airport Executives (A.A.E.) who attend this webinar. The American Institute of Certified Planners has approved this webinar for 1.5 Certification Maintenance Credits.

Sheri Ernico, LeighFisher, will discuss how airport practitioners can apply the findings in ACRP Report 66: Considering and Evaluating Airport Privatization to their home airport. She will share ideas for how airport operators, policy makers, and others can analyze the potential advantages and disadvantages of implementing various approaches to airport privatization.

Daniel Reimer of Kaplan Kirsch & Rockwell LLP will share results from Legal Research Digest 7: Airport Governance and Ownership on the issue of airport ownership and governance. Daniel will explore determinants of airport ownership and governance; advantages and disadvantages of various airport governance structures ; and case studies of airports transferred from one form of governance to another.

Jodi Howick of Durham, Jones & Pinegar will share the results from Legal Research Digest 15: Compilation of State Airport Authorizing Legislation. She will explore state-specific airport legislation, including laws establishing, developing, operating, expanding, and funding airports. The compilation focuses on legislation expressly applicable to public airports rather than legislation applicable to local governments .

Webinar Learning Objectives:

Audience members will learn strategies for considering and analyzing the potential advantages and disadvantages for implementing various approaches to airport privatization. They will learn legal concepts related to airport governance and ownership and gain an understanding of how state legislation can affect airport operators and ownership options.

4. Under Browse you have the option of searching by Date, Provider, or Distance Education and using the search box to type in the name of the event or activity and clicking go.

5. A pop-up box will appear. If this is a multi-part event you will have the option to select from a list of activities.

6. Please rate, add a comment (optional), and click on the Ethics statement and answer

7. Click submit and the CM credits should appear in your CM log.
