Hawaiian, Alaska top punctual airlines list

Oct. 16-- Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines are the most punctual and ExpressJet Airlines and United Airlines operate the most chronically late flights among major U.S. carriers in August and for the first eight months of the year, the federal government said.

The Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics said Hawaiian's 92.8 percent on-time arrival percentage was best in the industry in August, followed by Alaska's 89.35 percent and Delta Air Lines' 83.9 percent.

American Airlines, which operates 16 flights a day at Tulsa International Airport, finished in the bottom third of 15 carriers with an on-time record of 74.7 percent; American Eagle Airlines, its regional airline affiliate, had an August on-time record of 78.65 percent.

The industry average on-time performance in August was 79.15 percent.

For the first eight months of the year, Hawaiian's on-time record of 92.76 percent ranked first, followed by Alaska's 87.9 percent and AirTran Airways' 86.98 percent.

American Eagle's 81.37 percent through the first eight months ranked 10th, and American's 80.22 percent was 11th.

The industry average through August was 82.06 percent, the BTS said.
