Fraport, Frankfurt Airport Post Higher Passenger Traffic In September, Q3

(RTTNews) - Fraport AG (FPRUF.PK), the owner and operator of Germany's Frankfurt Airport, on Thursday reported an increase in passenger traffic for the month of September as well as third quarter mainly with increased passenger activity in the Airport.

Fraport's five majority-owned airports, including Frankfurt Airport or FRA, recorded a 3.9 percent increase in September passenger numbers to 10.48 million.

In the month, FRA welcomed around 5.36 million passengers, an increase of 1 percent from last year. This was a new historic level for September, despite a strike. The number of aircraft movements decreased 0.7 percent to 42,214 takeoffs and landings, and maximum takeoff weights declined 0.5 percent to about 2.5 million tonnes. Seat load factor was 80 percent, higher than prior year's 79.2 percent.

Among the other four airports, September traffic at Peru's Lima Airport grew 16.2 percent to 1.12 million passengers, and the Antalya Airport on the Turkish Riviera saw a 5.7 percent increase to 3.51 million passengers.

On the Bulgaria Black Sea coast, traffic at Burgas Airport rose 1.7 percent percent, and Varna Airport, which was temporarily closed for reconstruction work from October last year to February this year, recorded a 7.5 percent decline in passenger numbers. Varna was reopened in March.

September cargo traffic at Fraport's five airports, meanwhile, fell 2.3 percent to 204,941 metric tonnes as all airports showed a decline. At FRA, air freight was down 2.1 percent and air mail dropped 4.4 percent.

For the third quarter, Fraport's five majority-owned airports recorded traffic growth of 4.1 percent to 34 million passengers.

FRA's passenger numbers grew 3.1 percent to 16.72 million and seat load factor increased to 81.2 percent from last year's 80 percent. Aircraft movements edged up 0.6 percent and maximum takeoff weight rose 0.4 percent. Meanwhile, air freight dropped 4.7 percent and air mail fell 6.8 percent in the quarter.

Traffic at Peru's Lima Airport grew 11.1 percent, and the Antalya Airport's traffic rose 3.3 percent. Third-quarter traffic at Burgas Airport rose 6 percent percent, and Varna Airport recorded a 4.4 percent increase in passenger numbers.

For the quarter, Fraport's cargo traffic dropped 3.9 percent to 603,974 metric tonnes as a 4.8 percent decline in FRA and a 41.4 percent plunge in Burgas offset improvement in other airports.

On Frankfurt's Xetra, Fraport shares closed Wednesday's trading at 44.33 euros, down 0.22 euros or 0.50 percent.
