The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today named Douglas Hofsass as Assistant Administrator for the Office of Risk Based Security. This office is responsible for developing innovative approaches to transportation security that build upon a risk-based, intelligence driven model to implement procedures that facilitate effective and efficient security.Hofsass joined TSA in 2002 and most recently served as the agency s Associate Administrator for Risk-Based Security. Prior to that, he was the Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Office of Security Policy and Industry Engagement. In that role, he was responsible for ensuring key transportation security information and intelligence was shared across all modes of transportation. Hofsass also was TSA s General Manager for Commercial Aviation and the Federal Security Director at LaGuardia Airport.Since these efforts began, Doug has provided valuable leadership for TSA s Risk Based Security initiatives, said TSA Administrator John S. Pistole. His deep expertise in airline policy, aviation security and strategic planning will enable this new office to thrive at a time when our agency is establishing new benchmarks for maintaining and developing essential risk-based and intelligence driven security processes. Prior to joining TSA, Hofsass held a number of leadership positions in security and operations at United Airlines. During his time with United Airlines he was a principle incident responder for Flight 93 on location in Pennsylvania on 9/11.Hofsass serves on the board of directors of the Aero Club of Washington D.C. as the TSA liaison. He attended Harrisburg Community College, Pennsylvania State University and the University of Central Florida and is a graduate of the Office of Personnel Management s Federal Executive Institute.Ltd.
