Audi Mulls Joining Airport Expansion Project Near its Hungarian Base

The Hungarian unit of German car maker Audi could take part in the planned modernisation of the airport near its base in Gyor, northwestern Hungary, MTI news agency reported, citing local daily Kisalfold.

The company could purchase a majority stake in the airport operator, which is currently 76% owned by the Gyor municipality. The project, which envisages an extension of the runway, could start no earlier than in the spring of 2013.

Audi celebrated the roofing ceremony for its new EUR 900mn production plant in Gyor, which will transform the existing facility into a full-fledged car plant with press ship, body shop and pain shop. It will become operational in 2013 and will raise the annual car production capacity to 125,000 vehicles.
