Visakhapatnam, Sept. 18 -- SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, will operate non-stop air services from Visakhaptnam to Singapore from October 28 to cater to the needs of the people of coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring areas.
Addressing a press conference here today, SilkAir India General Manager G M Toh claimed SilkAir would be first airline carrier to provide non-stop international air connection from Visakhapatnam Port City.
He said the new services would be operated with Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft featuring both Business and Economy class cabins.
The flights would be operated three times weekly, departing on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays with next day return flights.
He said Visakhapatnam would be SilkAir's eighth destination in India and together with Singapore Airlines' flights to six other indian destinations, both airline now would operate from a total of 11 cities in India.
He said the SilkAir's global route network will grow to 42 destinations in 12 countries with the new service.
SilkAir Andhra Pradesh In-charge, Vivek Jain said Singapore Airlines and SilkAir combined scheduled features 85 flights from 10 cities in India --- Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengalure, Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kochi, Thiruvananthpuram and Coimbatore.
Asked about safety aspects at Visakhapatnam Airport, Mr Jain said flight safety was the most important factor of the airlines.
Manager Visakhapatnam SilkAir L Ravindran said the new flight service would be very useful for people of the north coastal Adhara Pradesh and neighboring areas.
