Airlines for America has issued the following news release:

Airlines for America (A4A) and the Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l (ALPA) will be launching five new Known Crewmember (KCM) sites in Sept. 2012. KCM is an enhanced security-screening program for airline crew members, which positively verifies a pilot's identity and employment status, strengthening aviation security and shortening screening lines for passengers.

On Sept. 5, 2012, two new Known Crewmember program sites will open, one at Lambert - St. Louis International Airport and the other at Indianapolis International airport. Later in the month, three additional airport locations will be launched - John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) on Sept. 18, 2012, and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) on Sept. 19, 2012. The KCM program is expected to launch five additional airport locations from Oct. through Dec.

The Known Crewmember program enables Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers to verify the identity and employment status of airline flight crew members. As a result, airline pilots (and in the future, flight attendants), who already undergo thorough criminal background and employment checks as a condition of their employment, will be subject to a more efficient security-screening process.

More than 5,500 screenings currently take place each day at the 18 U.S. airports that feature the KCM access sites, which include Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW), Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE), Denver International Airport (DEN), Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS), Miami International Airport (MIA), Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), O'Hare International Airport (ORD), Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
