Portland International Jetport Earns LEED Gold Certification

The expansion involved construction of a new terminal, expanded security checkpoints and a sky bridge between the terminal and parking

As per the reports, Portland International Jetport has earned LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council for its $77 million expansion, which was completed in late 2011. The expansion involved construction of a new terminal, expanded security checkpoints and a sky bridge between the terminal and parking. The newly built terminal of the airport spans 160,000 square feet.

The terminal has three gates and includes a new ticketing hall, a modern baggage handling area that places TSA baggage screening out of view, six new passenger checkpoint lanes, new departures lounges, concessions, and food court seating. The design of the new terminal roots its inspiration to the natural beauty and resources of Maine. The newest terminal of the airport is the second commercial airport in the US to be accredited with LEED certification.
