Tweed New Haven Regional Airport revamps website, adds mobile apps
July 04--Tweed New Haven Regional Airport has upgraded its website and added mobile applications for smartphones as part of a larger branding makeover.
Digital Surgeons, a New Haven new media company, redesigned the website to make it easier to use and more useful to travelers. The company was paid $30,000 for the rebranding, which came from a grant from New Haven. Among the new features are a flight tracker and the ability to book flights on the airport's only regularly scheduled airline, US Airways Express.
"We're trying to mimic the experience that people get when they fly out of Tweed: Convenience and ease of use," said David Salinas, chief executive officer of Digital Surgeons.

Digital Surgeons also developed the airport's first smartphone applications, which are available for both iPhone and Android.
The website upgrade is part of a larger campaign to refresh Tweed's brand as an airport, Salinas said. That includes a new logo that is prominently featured on the site and is designed to increase awareness of the airport's HVN code.
"We want people to search for HVN when they travel instead of first looking for JFK and BDL," he said referring to the airport codes for New York's John F. Kennedy Airport or Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks.
Tweed officials are anxious to build upon the airport's recent success, which includes a report released earlier this year that showed more airline passengers flew out of Tweed in 2011 than in 10 of the past 11 years. The number represented an 11 percent increase over the year before.
US Airways Express flies out of Tweed several times a day, offering connecting flights from Philadelphia to more than 130 national or international destinations.
"The increase in travelers flying from Tweed clearly shows that business and leisure travelers throughout the region are finding it easier and easier to depart from Tweed," Tim Larson, executive director of Tweed, said in a statement. "The steady growth in passenger departures from Tweed New Haven demonstrates that with greater awareness, and a rebounding economy, prospects for continued growth are strong.
