Birmingham Airport to deploy Gentrack 20/20 airport management system

Birmingham Airport in the UK has signed a deal to streamline its operations by deploying Gentrack's 20/20 Airport Management System.

Under the deal, Birmingham Airport will deploy a comprehensive suite of integrated solutions which include 20/20's airport operational database (AODB), flight information display (FIDS), resource management (RMS).

Birmingham Airport Information Services head, Wayne Smith, said: "Birmingham Airport is keen to take advantage of the latest technology to improve operational effectiveness."

According to Gentrack, the 20/20 AMS can manage various mobile assets including airport transport, gates, stands, check-in desks and baggage belts.

Nigel Farley, 20/20 general manager, said Birmingham Airport will be the first to take advantage of company's new mobile asset planning and real-time operation solution.

"We engineered the system to optimise the use of the buses available at the airport, by coordinating and facilitating the optimal way of transferring passengers to various airport destinations," said Farley.

The new solution will also help the airport achieve the standard to make it eligible for Europe's Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) initiative.

The new Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) initiative is a multi-airport partnership formed to enhance overall operational efficiency at European airports.

Under the A-CDM initiative, members including airport operators, handling agents, Air Traffic Control (ATC) and airline carriers, share information to enhance flight departure accuracy, which could allow to enhance route and sector planning all through the European ATC network.

The initiative is also expected to support Birmingham airport's improved airport utilisation and growth plan.

Birmingham Airport serves passengers from all over the UK and handled nearly 9m passengers in 2011.

Gentrack has also deployed 20/20 system at Newcastle International Airport in the UK and at Hong Kong and Brisbane International Airports, respectively.
