Fraport, Frankfurt Airport Report Growth In Passenger Traffic For May
(RTTNews) - Fraport AG (FPRUF.PK), the owner and operator of Germany's Frankfurt Airport, on Thursday reported a slight increase in passenger traffic for the month of May mainly with increased passenger activity in the Airport.
Fraport's five majority-owned airports, including FRA (Frankfurt Airport), recorded a 0.4 percent increase in passenger numbers to 8.96 million.
Cargo traffic at Fraport's five airports, meanwhile, fell 8.5 percent to 194,778 metric tons mainly due to a 10.3 percent decline in FRA and lower traffic at Varna, and total movements edged down 0.9 percent.
In May, FRA welcomed about 5.11 million passengers in May, a growth of 1.4 percent from last year, despite the thinning out of the flight schedule due to three additional long weekends, the company said. The private travel segment was positively influenced by these public holidays with corresponding bridge days falling in May. Seat load factor declined to 75.3 percent from prior year's 75.7 percent.
Aircraft movements at FRA dropped 0.4 percent to 43,050 takeoffs and landings in May - mainly due to the thinning out of the flight schedule. Airfreight fell 10.6 percent to 168,208 metric tons. Accumulated maximum takeoff weights edged down 0.7 percent to about 2.6 million metric tons partly affected by the decrease in heavy freighter aircraft.
Among the other four airports, traffic at Peru's Lima Airport grew 11.6 percent, while the Antalya Airport on the Turkish Riviera saw a 4.7 percent decline.
On the Bulgaria Black Sea coast, traffic at Burgas Airport fell 7.3 percent, and Varna Airport, which was temporarily closed for reconstruction work from October 15, 2011 to February 28, 2012, recorded a 15.7 percent decline in passenger numbers following the reopening in March.
On Frankfurt's Xetra, Fraport shares closed Wednesday's trading at 40.20 euros.
