Airports Council International - North America and its Canadian division, the Canadian Airports Council today welcomed program improvements to the NEXUS trusted traveler program, which streamlines international travel for members of the bi-national program shared between the U.S and Canada.

"Enhancing the passenger experience is a top priority for North America's airports and the NEXUS program has resulted in increased efficiencies for frequent travelers between the U.S. and Canada," said ACI-NA President Greg Principato. "NEXUS is an excellent example of U.S.-Canada cooperation and the program enhancements announced today will benefit its members."

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Canada Border Services Agency today announced a series of steps to streamline and expedite applications and renewals in the program as well as to increase awareness of NEXUS and its benefits among the travelling public.

"ACI-NA also looks forward to the implementation of another element of the Beyond the Border action plan for perimeter security when Canadian NEXUS members will be allowed to participate in TSA PreCheck," Principato concluded.

In 2011, President Obama and Prime Minister Harper announced the United States-Canada joint declaration, Beyond the Border: A Shared Vision for Perimeter Security and Economic Competitiveness. Beyond the Border articulates a shared approach to security in which both countries work together to address threats within, at, and away from our borders, while expediting lawful trade and travel.
