Aerostar to Double Commercial Aviation MRO Capacity With New Hangar to Open in May
The new 5,000-sq-meter hangar can accommodate four bays for regional/narrow-body aircraft.
Aerostar S.A., the leading Romanian aerospace company, announced today at the Airline Purchasing & Maintenance Expo in London that a new hangar it is building at its Bacau location will double its commercial aviation MRO capacity.
The hangar, which is now substantially complete, is having its utilities and equipment installed and will be ready for opening within the next few weeks. The new 5,000-sq-meter hangar can accommodate four bays for regional/narrow-body aircraft.
Currently Aerostar’s MRO activities are carried out in an earlier 4-bay hangar, so the addition of the new facility brings total capacity to eight aircraft in over 10,000 sq. meters of space.
Ovidiu Buhai, Director Aviation MRO for Aerostar stated: “Our investment in this new hangar facility underlines Aerostar’s determination to develop its growing commercial aviation MRO activities. In addition to our long-standing Part 145 approvals for the Boeing 737 family and BAe 146/Avro RJ we have added the Airbus A320 family in the past year. We also have approvals for the Rolls-Royce M250 turboshaft engine.
“Our message to the market is clear. We are looking to capture an increasing number of new customers and also to diversify into other aircraft types for which we can supply MRO services.”
Aerostar can supply 360,000 manhours a year for commercial aircraft MRO work. It has 32 Part 66 licensed engineers and over 150 technicians in avionics, mechanics and structures. It also has a highly experienced logistics department, dedicated solely to Part 145 work, capable of handling all matters related to subcontracting/purchasing, transport and customs issues.
The first C Check was carried out on a Boeing 737 in December 2004, since when Aerostar has completed more than 200 C-and D- checks for over 20 airlines from Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India.
