TOKYO, Dec. 8 Kyodo

The president of Japan Airlines Corp. said Thursday the company plans to fly the Boeing 787 Dreamliner on three existing routes from Tokyo next spring in addition to a new service to Boston announced earlier.

JAL President Masaru Onishi said during a regular press conference the airline is expecting to receive the first Dreamliner in February and intends to introduce the first mid-size aircraft with better fuel efficiency and passenger comfort to routes to New Delhi and Moscow from Narita airport, and to Beijing from Haneda airport.

''We chose routes with medium-sized demand and a relatively high percentage of business travelers,'' said Onishi, adding the introduction is also aimed at strengthening its service for the Beijing route.

Regarding American Airlines filing for bankruptcy, Onishi reiterated JAL's statement that its partnership with the carrier remains unaffected and said JAL, which also underwent court-backed rehabilitation after filing for bankruptcy last year, is willing to ''do anything we can'' for its partner.

He also said passenger traffic is recovering and cargo traffic actually growing in flood-hit Thailand as flood water recedes.
