SOUTHAMPTON, Pa., Nov. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Environmental Tectonics Corporation (ETC) (http://www.etcusa.com/) announces the successful completion of the Factory Acceptance Tests of the suite of the advanced aeromedical training devices purchased by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) of the Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF). The suite of training devices were designed and manufactured for the Korean Air Force by the Aircrew Training Systems (ATS) business unit of ETC. The training devices provide the opportunity for air force personnel to train for high G, hypoxia, spatial disorientation, night vision, ejection seat preparedness and recompression.
This turnkey aeromedical center, which marks ETC's largest contract in the East Pacific region of the world, includes the six high performance trainers further described below:
The ATFS-400 Phoenix, like ETC's prior trainers, integrates high fidelity virtual tactical simulation and creates a fully flyable human training and research centrifuge. The 25-foot spinning arm is capable of generating up to 15 G's, and the device comes with two interchangeable cockpit modules supporting F-15K and KF-16 aircraft. All cockpits feature HLA connectivity and can be inserted as full mission simulators inside the ATFS-400 or used as standalone trainers outside the ATFS-400.
The GYROLAB Model GL-4000 is a Spatial Disorientation, Motion Desensitization and Upset Recovery Trainer for both fixed and rotary wing aircrew. The continuous pitch, roll and yaw axis provide sustained G (up to 3 G's) and motion cueing for motion desensitization training.
The Falcon Altitude Chamber, Model 24/8 is a hypobaric chamber that is designed to demonstrate and train for the effects of hypoxia in high altitude conditions. The chamber is ASME PVHO-1 compliant and can support up to 32 students and 6 instructors in the Main and Lock / R/D compartments respectively. Add on equipment such as aircraft specific regulators, specialized air conditioning units and breathing air systems have been included.
ETC's Hyperbaric Chamber, Model 6/2/6, is used as a high pressure training environment and for medical treatment. The multi-occupant high pressure chamber is ASME PVHO compliant. Additional accessories include medical monitoring, CCTV recording, and an oxygen system.
ETC's Ejection Seat Simulator (ESS) combines procedures and decision making training. The simulator presents the student with a profile that forces a decision of whether or not to eject. The pilot then performs the emergency response checklist, makes the decision to eject or not, positions him or herself and ejects. All movements and decisions are recorded with high speed cameras for later debriefing.
Night Vision Training System/Night Vision Goggle Training System (NVTS/NVGTS) is a classroom based training system that simulates visibility restrictions encountered in real world situations. The Night Vision Training System consists of automated training programs for unaided and aided vision at night and the use of customized 12ft x 6ft Terrain Model Board representing South Korean terrain. The ROKAF will now have the capability to demonstrate and train pilots in mishap prevention associated with night flight.
These tests are the culmination of two years of intense design and manufacture to create one of the world's most comprehensive training facilities. Shipping will begin in early December to be installed in Korea's new state of the art Aeromedical Training Center.
