LAS VEGAS, Oct. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Senior Editor Fred George, part of Aviation Week's Business and Commercial Aviation (BCA) team, today received the 2011 National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) David W. Ewald Platinum Wing Award, which recognizes lifetime achievement of excellence in journalism. This is the fourth consecutive year that BCA has won this prestigious award, with past recipients including William Garvey, Dave Collogan, George Larson, Torch Lewis, and Patrick Veillette. The Wing Award was presented this morning at the NBAA's 64th Annual Meeting and Convention in Las Vegas.

As senior editor, Fred George writes pilot reports for BCA, ShowNews, and Aviation Week & Space Technology. Like David Ewald, the esteemed journalist for whom the Wing Award is named, Fred George is noted for the passion he has brought to his long career in aviation reporting. He has received a number of aviation journalism awards and is an active pilot, having flown more than 150 aircraft models and having earned an Airline Transport Pilot certificate and five jet aircraft type ratings. Prior to Aviation Week, Fred George was a U.S. naval aviator, Federal Aviation Administration-designated pilot examiner, instrument flight instructor, and jet charter pilot.

"Fred's expertise in aircraft and equipment evaluation is recognized as expert and unbiased by the business aviation industry," said William Garvey, editor-in-chief of BCA and the 2009 Wing Award recipient. "His reports are unparalleled in their detail, authority, and objectivity, and have become the standard by which all others are measured. Fred has been an invaluable member of the BCA team for going on 30 years, and we are thrilled with this recognition."
