Strike at Newark Airport

Fuelers and ramp workers walked out on Wednesday in protest of the contract they were being offered by Allied Aviation Services.

More than 200 fuelers and other ramp workers left their jobs at Newark Liberty International Airport early Wednesday.

The Newark employees belong to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) which chose to strike due to low wages and sharply rising medical costs offered in their contract by Allied Aviation Services.

So far the port authority and two airlines at Newark say the strike has caused few delays, citing the weather as a more critical factor.
