Delta Air Lines Inc., the nation's third-largest carrier, said Friday it is replacing its independent auditor with another firm, a decision that is subject to bankruptcy court approval.
The Atlanta-based company said its decision to replace Deloitte & Touche LLP with Ernst & Young LLP for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31 followed a competitive bid process and was not caused by any disagreement with Deloitte & Touche over accounting matters.
The company's audit committee selected Ernst & Young because of its experience with airlines and companies involved in reorganization proceedings, Delta said.
Delta, which filed for bankruptcy protection in New York on Sept. 14, said Deloitte & Touche will still complete the audit of the airline's financial statements for last year. Delta's fourth-quarter and year-end 2005 results are scheduled to be released on Feb. 14.
